Matthias Honegger
Climate Interventions Director
An interdisciplinary advisor on climate governance, Matthias leads CFG’s program on climate interventions, focusing on their governance and the policies shaping their research.
Matthias has well over a decade of experience in climate change governance. In a separate role with Perspectives Climate Research, Matthias leads the Co-CREATE advising the EU on research governance for solar radiation modification research.
With a strong and highly interdisciplinary academic background in Environmental System Sciences (from ETH Zurich) and political science (Utrecht University) he builds bridges and finds pragmatic climate governance solutions.
He’s left a mark already on the issue of fair and effective policies for carbon dioxide removal. He has a knack for breaking down dilemmas involved in upcoming decisions surrounding climate technologies for academics, professionals, and publics.
At heart, he’s driven by a simple goal: to contribute to a thriving people and planet, no matter how big and daunting the challenges. For him, this means to work at the intersection of science and policy, where at least some of the magic happens.
