Anthony Gooch Gálvez joins the CFG board

BRUSSELS – The board of Centre for Future Generations is pleased to welcome Anthony Gooch Gálvez as its fifth member.

“Technology is among the most necessary, urgent and challenging areas of policymaking to facilitate extraordinary breakthroughs in the most pressing concerns for humanity such as climate or health, whilst mitigating increasingly evident risks. CFG’s work on advanced AI, biotechnology, neurotechnology, and climate interventions, as well as the convergence between emerging technologies makes it quite unique. I am delighted to join the board, bring my experience to bear to help it grow and flourish,” said Anthony.

Following a 30-year career at the top of international organisations including the EU’s European Commission and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as Secretary General of the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) bringing together the captains of industry of Europe’s 60 largest industrial and technology companies, he helps steer efforts to restore Europe’s competitiveness and complete the Single Market. 

Over 15 years as Director at the OECD, he worked on major transformational projects including the reform of global tax standards following the Global Financial Crisis, pioneered the the OECD Better Life Index, a groundbreaking initiative to promote measures of well-being and quality of life going beyond GDP and supported efforts to develop Trustworthy Human-centric Principles for the development of Artificial Intelligence. He created the OECD Global Parliamentary Network, whose members drawn from over 50 countries contribute to developing and fine tuning international standards across the breadth of international public policy.

His 14 years at the European Commission included co-ordinating Free Trade negotiations with Mexico, working as the EU’s spokesman for International Trade and special adviser to Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy to launch the WTO Doha Development Round and bring China into the WTO. He also represented the EU in senior diplomatic roles in the United States and United Kingdom.

Anthony holds advisory roles with leading EU think tanks including the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies and Re-Imagine Europa and is an adjunct professor at IE University .
