Thomas Van Damme

Foresight Analyst

Thomas joined CFG as a Talos Fellow working on AI governance and EU policy. His research explores how Europe can leverage its unique strengths to steer AI’s global trajectory towards beneficial outcomes.

Thomas has a background in International Relations and Diplomacy. He combines a broad understanding of global affairs with an interest in data-driven analysis and an ability to unpack the technical details of complex policy problems. Passionate about the intersection of policy and technology, he enjoys tinkering with new tools and has led two hackathon-winning teams.

Before joining CFG, Thomas was a research associate at Safe AI Forum, where he explored precedents for AI verification by examining existing source code inspection regimes. He previously worked as a disinformation researcher at the University of Antwerp, developing a global misinformation resilience index for an EU institution. He also serves as Scientific Advisor to the International Panel on the Information Environment. In a past life he worked as a maritime archaeologist and underwater 3D scanning specialist.
